What it records

RankX AI records more than a position for every keyword you track.

A tracked keyword is a pinned measurement: its position and ranking URL, its best ever, the market and device it is checked from, and the dated page of results behind each check.

  • Position

Where your page sits in Google’s results for a tracked keyword, recorded with the URL that ranked at the time of the check.

Checked only when you are worried, a position is an anecdote.

  • Best ever

How high each keyword has ever reached since tracking began, kept beside the latest check and marked on the history chart.

Without it, a recovery and a slide can look identical.

  • Device and market

Which country, optional town or city, and device a keyword is checked from. Each combination is tracked as its own row.

A rank without a market is somebody else’s rank.

  • SERP snapshot

What the results page held when a check read it, stored and dated, down to the URLs that occupied every position that day.

A number tells you that you moved. The page tells you why.

A position is recorded per check, so every figure carries a date. The figures in the pictures are the sample scenario’s.

When it checks

How rank checks run: on your schedule, and on demand.

Every check queries Google search for the market and device the keyword is pinned to. When it runs is up to you, in two ways.

Scheduled checks

RankX AI checks every active keyword on a per-project schedule, from daily to every 30 days, with the fastest cadences depending on plan, and writes each result into the keyword’s history. Set it once and the record builds itself.

The slide you catch in week one is the one you can still reverse.

On-demand checks

Re-check any tracked keyword the moment you need a fresh answer, or run an ad-hoc lookup on a keyword you have not tracked yet. On-demand lookups are credit priced, with a monthly allowance, so the cost is always visible.

The check you can run mid-meeting is the one that settles it.

What you see

The rank tracker in one view: positions, history and the page itself.

The table ranks every tracked keyword, the chart remembers each one’s best, and the snapshot keeps the page of results a check read. Numbers you can open, not just watch.

Positions and direction

Every tracked keyword with its current position and its movement since the previous check, and its full history one click away.

Rank history, best marked

A position chart for every keyword, with its best ever marked, so a good week and a good trend are never confused for each other.

The page one, on a date you pick

The date scrubber steps back through your recent checks and opens the stored page of results, exactly as the check read it.

No single true rankGoogle personalises: two people searching the same words can see two different pages. Location, device and history all move the result, so any tool promising one true position is promising too much.

Pinned to a marketRankX AI pins every check to a declared country, town and device, and stores those settings with the result. This week’s number and last month’s are measuring the same thing, which is what makes the trend worth reading.

The page, keptEach check stores the results page it read. A movement is never just a number: open the snapshot and see who moved above you, and with what.

Sample data with invented brands and keywords. Direction arrows show movement since the previous check.

Above the results

Where Google’s AI Overviews fit into your rank tracking.

On many commercial searches Google now answers above the results it ranks, so the top of the page is no longer position 1.

RankX AI records whether an AI Overview appeared for every tracked keyword, in the same check that records your position, so your rank and what sat above it are never two separate stories.

Questions

What people ask about rank tracking.

How RankX AI schedules checks, what a snapshot keeps and where the limits sit, answered without hedging.

How often does RankX AI check my rankings?

On a schedule you set for each project. Scheduled checks run from daily to every 30 days, with the fastest cadences depending on your plan, and every result is written into the keyword’s history. You can also re-check any keyword on demand the moment you need a fresh answer, so the schedule is the floor, not the ceiling.

Can I track the same keyword on desktop and mobile, or in two countries?

Yes. A tracked keyword is pinned to a country, an optional town or city, and a device, and every combination is its own row with its own history and its own snapshots. The tracker only stops you adding the same keyword twice with identical settings, because that would be the same measurement twice.

What does a SERP snapshot actually store?

The page of results the check read: the ranking pages in order, your own position and ranking URL, and the date and time of the check. The date scrubber then steps back through your last 30 days of checks, so you can open the page one that stood on a given day instead of guessing from a chart.

Is rank tracking the same as AI visibility tracking?

No, they are two separate pipelines. Rank tracking checks your tracked keywords in Google search and records positions and the results page. AI visibility tracking asks your tracked prompts across the AI assistants and reads who gets named in the answers. RankX AI runs both, each on its own schedule, and neither number is derived from the other.

Where do the keyword suggestions come from?

From your own sitemap. RankX AI reads the pages you already publish and suggests keywords from them, so the starting list reflects your actual site rather than a generic seed list. Suggestions are a starting point: you can add any keyword by hand, each pinned to its own market and device.

Is there a limit on how many keywords I can track?

There is, and it is visible rather than hidden. Each plan includes a tracked-keyword quota, the tracker shows how much of it you have used, and at the limit you can upgrade or untrack keywords to make room. On-demand lookups draw on their own monthly allowance, separate from the tracked-keyword quota.

Tracking who the AI assistants recommend is the other pipeline: AI Visibility. More detail in the documentation.
